SMU Aquatic Center

One of three Olympic standard natatoriums in Texas, this complex and invigorating design was a challenging project that required exact standards, leaving no room for error.  Sizelove Construction, in collaboration with The Beck Group, constructed one of the most highly-complex designs at Southern Methodist University.  The Olympic size 50-meter competition pool and 10-meter dive tower, which is the key feature of this outstanding Aquatic center, comprises cast-in-place concrete stairs to four high-strength concrete diving platforms.

The high tolerance formwork was a challenging endeavor.  The center column, which stands over 10-meters, had to be constructed with mass concrete.  Because mass concrete can lead to undesirable thermal stresses, the concrete was cooled with liquid nitrogen before poured, which was pivotal to the high-quality architectural design of the dive tower.

This first-rate architectural concrete construction, built with Olympic standards, will continue the tradition of developing NCAA champions and Olympians at Southern Methodist University for years to come.
